Primary emphasis is on East Asian subjects, but the department welcomes applicants seeking to integrate their interests in Chinese or Japanese literature with such inter-disciplinary studies as history, history of art, linguistics, religious studies, comparative literature, literary theory and criticism, and the social sciences.
