Arquitectura y Diseño, Arquitectura (Architecture), |
| Descripción: |
The programme of the second cycle leading up to the degree in engineering: architecture concentrates on workshop activities, supported by the tee pillars of architecture degree: design, construction engineering and the scientific theory of architecture. The training seeks to provide graduates with "professional competence", based on cultural and social foundations as well as technical know-how. The synthesizing design activity is fed by formal lectures and seminars offering the theoretical basics involved in the design process. Tough seminars students prepare themselves, both in method and content, for the graduation work. Although the basic package continues to cover all aspects, the students may now chart and develop further their own individual curriculum tough elective courses. In his graduation work the student works out a design or research issue independently under the supervision of a scientific staff. The results of the graduation work are publicly presented at an end colloquium. |

Arquitectura y Diseño, Arquitectura (Architecture), |
| Descripción: |
This technical-social-artistic degree features a first cycle curriculum built around a problem-oriented learning process. Students acquire, among others, inductive knowledge in dealing with design, architecture and construction issues. Both independently and as a group, they learn to process the knowledge offered in a creative fashion. The locus of this process is the design workshop, where undergraduates discover the complexity of architectonics, how to tackle the problems involved and the most advisable procedures to be applied. |

Artes, Arte y Ciencia (Arts and Science), |
| Descripción: |
The Education Art Science and Archaeology concerns only the first cycle. The main goal of this first cycle is to obtain a good basis for more specialised choices in the second grade. The first year follows a clearly more historical oriented path; the introductions to several aspects of art science (architecture, plastic arts, ethnology, musicology and theatre) are set in a historical perspective, from Antiquity till the present time. An introduction to archaeology aims at preparing the students for the archaeological studies in the next tee years. |

Ciencias Naturales, Biología (Biology), |
| Descripción: |
The importance of the study of life on earth, of plants, animals and micro-organisms has recently become a matter of general importance (also in the media). But in order to understand nature, knowledge of botany, zoology and microbiology are only part of the picture : a profound knowledge of the physical and (bio)chemical interactions of the living organisms with their environment is required; a good mathematical background is necessary for the interpretation of those relationships. That is why the courses like physics, chemistry and mathematics are in the curriculum of the first cycle (two years). Directly from the first year, the importance of practical work is clear : next to daily practical exercices (5 afternoons per week), students also have to prepare an herbarium. In the second year of the first cycle, field work is linked to the course of ecology. |

Sistemas, Ciencias Computacionales (Computer Science), |
| Descripción: |
The studies of computer science engineering seek to train engineers specialized in IT. This field covers all factual knowledge, insights and skills required to design, build and operate information processing systems. It thus includes hardware and software and it rests on a partly specific formal basis that is not to be found in other engineering disciplines. The main discipline of the computer science engineer is the professional use and creation of information processing systems in a broad range of application. This training seeks breadth and depth, and the requirements are set in encyclopaedic knowledge (knowing), insight and skills (understanding and know-how). |

Derecho, Estudios avanzados en Ley Europea (Advanced Studies in European Law), M.A. |
| Descripción: |
These studies are aimed at graduates from different disciplines with a particular interest in European law. This one year course aims to provide high level teaching of the most important aspects of European Community law. European judicial protection, the institutional framework and European fiscal and social policies are discussed in detail both from a strictly legal approach and in their political/economic context and including the monetary aspects of European integration. Where relevant the relationship with Belgian and international legal systems is indicated. Through analysis of legislation, case-law and doctrine, a global overview of all aspects of Community policy is offered, including the most recent developments. The programme comprises nine courses. Students will be examined on all these courses. Besides lectures and guest lectures, students will have to make papers both on an individual and group basis. Finally, students will have to produce a dissertation on a subject related to European law with the prior approval of the examination-board. |

Ingenierias, Ingeniería Eléctrica (Electrical Engineering), |
| Descripción: |
The first two years of the electrical engineering curriculum are common. They mainly comprise general courses. In the last year students pick an option that will enable them to adopt a limited profile in a given direction, i.e. applied electronics, micro-electronics and opto-electronics, communication techniques, computer science or control engineering and automation. Besides the graduation work the last year only includes option courses and elective courses. The student has a choice, subject to a number of preconditions, either to specialize further in the option picked or to strive for broader education. Moreover the curriculum offers a wide choice of non-technical courses as well as the possibility of going tough an industrial training (as an elective course). |

Ingenierias, Ingeniería Química (Chemical Engineering), Dip. |
| Descripción: |
The studies in chemical engineering are devoted to the techniques, processes and installations used in the chemical and petrochemical industries. They seek to produce broadly trained engineers mastering the fundamentals of chemical technology. Chemical engineers can be used in a wide set of activities: ensuring the design, the construction, the operation, the improvement and the maintenance of plants and devices from the chemical industry, taking on R and D tasks and filling executive jobs in their work environment. The degree in chemical engineering seeks to develop analytical, synthetic and innovative intellect as well as the implementation in the field of the scientific and technological knowledge acquired. |
